A first-timer's guide to a comedy night

Live stand-up is one of the best nights out there — and one of the easiest. A few tips if it's your first time:

Get there a little early

You'll get a better seat, time to grab a drink, and you won't have to shuffle past the front row mid-set.

Phones down

Comics are often trying out new material. Keep your phone in your pocket and keep the jokes in the room.

Laugh out loud

It sounds obvious, but a loud room makes for a better show. The more you give, the more you get back.

Heckling: just don't

A comic might talk to you. That's crowd work, and it's part of the fun. Shouting things at the stage isn't.
